Don't forget that the deadline for submissions for the first issue of Hit and Miss Magazine is tommorow.
So if you have any photos of scapes, stacks, bruises, derby tatts or want to send a letter to the lovely people who write HAM or other stuff then you better send it in to info@hitandmissmagazine.com.au.
Quickly, what are you waiting for?
I assume that we'll see the first issue before Great Southern Slam, but watch @HAMRollerderby for details.

Tags: Melbourne, rollerderby, blogIt's been a little while since I posted a round up and it's exciting times for roller derby in Victoria. Not only are there quite a few bouts going on, but there's a lot of fundraising events coming up in the world of roller derby.
And a little further out on the horizon, it's the The Great Southern Slam. Set to be held at the Adelaide Showground on June 12-13. Teams from all across Australia and New Zeland will battle it out to determine who is the most awesome. The two day event will feature five friggin tracks (split between two pavilions).
It's sure to be the most exciting thing to hit Adelaide since... ever?
VRDL
Season 5 of VRDL cotinues to be popular as ever, though not without intrigue, but possibly more about this in a different (more grumbly) post... There's been a few injuries which meant that the Dead Ringer Rosies weren't in 100% health at Birthday Bash, which was both a shame for those players and Rosies supporters.
The results of the first two bouts of Season 5 were:
Burn Your Brass (13th March) – Dolls Au‐Go‐Go (204) defeated Toxic Avengers (134)
Birthday Bash (17th April) – Toxic Avengers (216) defeated Dead Ringer Rosies (139)
The next bout will see the Rosies face off against the Dolls. If the Rosies win the match then it'll be one a peice and I presume it'll go down to point differentiation (which may be a little close). But we'll see what happens.
Check out thier Myspace, the VRDL Facebook group or the VRDL blog.
Oh and tea towel merch! Brilliant idea... Will probably end up buying one next bout if I have the cash to do so.
GRDL vs BRDL
The BRDL are facing off against the GRDL's teams to find out which is the most awesome regional Victorian team. The GRDL have published the dates for the 2010 season.

6th June – BRDL vs Psychotics in Ballarat
25th July – Semi Finals at Leisuretime Centre, Bell Post Hill
15th Aug – Finals at Leisuretime Centre, Bell Post Hill

BRDL
BRDL played a great bout at Daylesford Chillout festival back in March (wow, that long ago). It'll be interesting to see how they do against the GRDL teams though.
On a personal note, we got there a little late, I was driving (I'm an L plater) and this was on the day of the hailstorms. We had to pull over for 10 minutes while the hail just slammed down on the car. Only managed to miss the first 10 or so minutes though.
BRDL are also having a fundraiser called "I ♥ the 80's ROLLER DISCO" on 8th May at Doug Dean Reserve in Delacombe. Dress 80's, Dance 80's, Skate 80's. Check out facebook for more details.

Tags: Melbourne, rollerderby, blogAm watching George and Martha... I love how obsessed they are by rollerderby... But because I can't find a video of them, here's a video from the latest VRDL bout...
Here's another Victorian Roller derby round-up... it's been a while huh?
VRDL
VRDL's latest bout, Movember Proskate Awareness was awesome...
As a bit of a side note, VRDL is getting really popular. The first match of this season seemed tiny (compared to Skate of Origin 2). VRDL seems to be advertising very well and clearly people are enjoying the matches and atmosphere.
Seemed like there was a lot of people turned away, and while we got there at around 7pm and had actual tickets we missed out on getting our usual seats. Instead we had to sit down near the Suicide line.
As a massive side note, here's some 'celebrity spotting' sillyness. I pointed out to Urbabe that Josh Thomas was standing on the other side, but we couldn't see Charlie Pickering with him (though we had seen him before). Urbabe sent a twitter to him asking if he wasn't friends with Josh. About a minute later he was standing behind us... we waited to see if he would pull out his phone to twitter back, but he didn't till later that night. Urbabe's attempts at Kenearing didn't work too well.
Getting on to the actual game, there was a lot of rough and tumble. Hidden Magenta took a tumble and was out for the rest of the game. Tsunami hit the floor and took a few jams off, but I think it's hard for her to be injured so she later rejoined the game. The game was very back and forth, with the Toxic Avengers getting an early lead, only for the Dead Ringer Rosies to jump ahead a few bouts later. With a lot of agression (and passion) there were a few times that Skate Bush as jammer would
end up in the penalty box at the end of a jam, meaning she was jammer for the Rosies a lot.
Near the end, the Rosies got a 30 point break on the Avengers. From there on out, point scoring was close, leaving a final score of Rosies 142 to the Toxics 118.
So get ready for the VRDL final Crashendo where the Rosies and Avengers go head to head again on the 5th December 2009 at Puckhandlers. And make sure you get some Reservoir Dolls items before they all go.
Check out thier Myspace, the VRDL Facebook group or the VRDL blog.
GRDL
GRDL are having thier Season Final this Saturday (26th October 2009). The event will see the Atom Bombs and Psychotics go head to head in the Season Final. The event will be AusLan Interpreted (which will certainly be interesting).
As an extra bonus there will be a Co-Ed Scrimmage. I wanna see how many times Harry Spot'er is sent off... Plus Calendars will be for sale!
Tix available from the Barwon Club, on the GRDL website or at the door. $10 for Adults, $5 for Children, Under 5s get in for nada.
Check out thier Myspace, GRDL Facebook Group or the GRDL blog.
BRDL
BRDL are kicking off on Sunday, 29th November 2009 with thier first official exhibition bout with the Gold Diggers facing of against the Libertines. It'll be interesting to see how they go.
Tickets are $5 per person, kids under 5 get in for zip. Tix are available at YHQ (122 Armstrong St Sth, Ballarat) or on the BRDL website. The event is being held in The Arch Stadium at the Ballarat High School.
They're not going to skate in corsets are they? Are they?
Also check out the BRDL Facebook Group, the BRDL Forum and the BRDL website.

Misty Meaner wrote to me as I was writing this post to let me know that they now have 24 girls in our league and train 3 times a week in Frankston. They also have a new website and the new logo looks a lot nicer.

WFTDA has set out it's new set of rules, in version 4.0. The full set is available in PDF form. WFTDA leagues must use these rules for sanctioned bouts by June 1st, but essentially all flat-track leagues that bout interleague will be expected to start using these rules too.
Fishnet burns lists some of the major changes, which could be seen in VRDL's most recent bout. These include changes to the Jammerless Jam and the period and jam clocks.

MacroPlan Australia has applied to Darebin Council to demolish the 'iconic' Northcote Bowl. Bought for $5 million in July by Trust Company of Australia, MacroPlan plans to build a $16 million 96 unit development on the site. According to the Northcote Leader, the council plans to nominate the site for the Victorian Heritage Register.
The site will remain a bowling alley for at least the summer holidays. But it's just typical isn't it. We start going bowling and now they want to demolish the place. My bowling isn't that bad is it?
There's a joke about knocking down a bowling alley somehwere in there, but I can't find it...

Ah... it's strange. According to Tech Digest Peekaboo Pole Dancing has sent out an email announcing their idea for a Wii pole dancing game. Peekaboo, who make poles for dancing there-on including Electrapole, seem to think that the Wii needs some more shimmying and shaking. In their news section they detail how they came to this conclusion...
Quote:
With pole dancing classes springing up in gyms and health clubs across Europe and the USA, the number of women seeking the body-sculpting and fat-burning effects of this aerobic form of exercise has never been greater.
Peekaboo and its partners are focussed on using Wii friendly hardware to make aerobic pole dancing instantly accessible just as Guitar Hero did for rock’n’roll.
Quote:
Men and women of all shapes and sizes will be encouraged to work on improving their skills, with the firm focus on fun and fitness as per the core brand values of Nintendo Wii.
Ah... I just can't see it happening... but it's a nice idea. Really I wonder where you would put the Wiimote while pole dancing... hmmm... might have to give that some thought.

Tags: Wii, Sport, blogNews.com.au reports Swimmer Stephanie Rice's hot shots on Facebook banned
Quote:
HAPPY snaps of Stephanie Rice partying have been deemed too raunchy for Swimming Australia, with all of the swimmers ordered to block public access to their Facebook profile pages.
Ian Hanson, media director for Swimming Australia stated
Quote:
"Some of the photos were somewhat distasteful and we thought it was best that they took a bit more care."
But they hardly are raunchy are they (you can see the photos here)? Probably not something you'd put in the public domain, but still, it's fairly tame. I mean, it's a dress up party... really... didn't know Swimming Australia was so prudish.

Tags: socialnetworking, Sport, Australia, blogI was flipping through the Melbourne Times and read an interview with Andy White who runs the fyxomatosis website. fyxomatosis mainly deals with fixed gear track disease. As my friend put it "only crazy f*ckers ride fixies".
But I've always said that you put a decent looking girl on a bike (regardless of the type) and she will look amazing. And this site has it in spades. Girls on bikes... yah.
But the photography also goes to San Fran and London (as well as Melbourne of course) and it's all very wonderful.
