We (urbabe and I) headed down to the Kris Kringle Night Markets at the Northcote Town Hall the other week and while some of the stuff is really awesome, you do have to remember that what's there is crafts and as a result tends to be priced as such.
Anyway, one of the artists there that had some stuff that we agreed was HMC Designs (they have an etsy store as well). The badges on cards and the magnets are amazingly cute.
And don't forget that the markets end this Thursday...

Hey... what are you doing Saturday? Do you want an R18+ rating for video games in Australia? Well, then you probably should be heading down to your local Attorney General's office and moaning (is that what zombies do?) at them.
The rally, planned to be held on 21st of November (the Saturday after the release of the Australian friendly version Left for Dead 2) kicking of at between 11am and noon, ending at 5pm or so.
There are specific demands being made of the Attorney Generals:
1. Removing Michael Atkinson from the R18+ decision
2. Releasing the R18+ discussion paper
3. Let the public vote for whether or not the R18+ should be brought in
4. Make Attorney General decisions a majority rather then unanimous decisions
You can find out more information at the Left 4 Dead 2 Rally website.
Michael Atkinson recently responded to a Gamer query, you can see the original scanned letter here.
I don't think we'll be attending (busy day), but if you can do so. Especially if you are in Adelaide...

Tags: videogames, Politics, Australia, Events, blogKmart is celebrating Bricktober with a competition. From now until the 29th of October, when you spend $20 or more twice, you could be in the running for a trip to LEGOland California (for 2 adults, 2 children) , staying at a ritzy hotel. You need to register at the Bricktober website, and follow the instructions there. Apparently the trip for the family involves writing a caption contest.
There's also some extra prizes to be won, namely:
50 Space Police K-9 Bot sets from 24 September to 7 October 2009
50 Red Brick key chains from 8-14 October 2009
50 Indiana Jones key chains from 15-21 October 2009
50 Darth Vader "limited edition metallic minifigs" 22-29 October 2009
The full details are outlined in the terms and conditions. Sadly the terms and conditions contain errors such as "Participants will also have the option to select a LEGO® Minifigure as their online character. This is not a mandatory requirement. If a LEGO® Minifigure is not selected, one will be randomly selected." however if you don't choose an avatar (which seems to have no purpose), it won't accept your registration.
To be honest, the instructions on the main website state that ALL you need to enter your details, choose a username and password, select a minifig and "Submit every LEGO® product purchase (values at $20 or more) from Kmart during Bricktober on this site." but there's a bit more to it than that. Shame that it's so complex.
Anyway... shouldn't babble. Good Luck!

Nintendo seem very excited about Wii Sports Resort. I've received quite a few SMS's about the launch party (at EB Games Swanston St, Wed July 22 at 10pm) and now I've got a lovely email about how you (yes you) could win your very own copy of Wii Sports Resort. Here's the skinny...
Quote:
Wii Sports Resort 12 Sports in 12 Days Giveaway
Competition Deadline:
Wed the 22 of Jul 09This competition runs daily and closes July 31
To celebrate the release of Wii Sports Re sort, Nintendo are giving you the chance to win a copy of Wii Sports Resort (with bonus Wii MotionPlus included) every day for 12 days. Simply return each day and re-enter for your c hance to win!
All you have to do is visit the competition page and tell Nintendo how excited you are by the new level of enhanced controls offered by Wii MotionPlus?
I hate these sorts of competitions though... but, hey. If you're into that kind of thing and want a copy of Wii Sports Resort, enter away (once a day at max though).
Not in Australia? Buy Wii Sports Resort from Play-Asia or Amazon.co.uk

Tags: Melbourne, Wii, Events, blogYeah, it's been a month. But check out my birthday cake!
It's a Tiramisu cake from Chef Momo's.
And yes it came with the LEGO (which we washed before giving back to them). The cake was delicious (but I only had a little bit of it sadly). I've been told by those that are chocolate lovers that the chocolate cakes are wonderful, not sickly rich but wonderfully chocolaty.
As a thank you present we gave Momo's a LEGO Brick Cake/Jelly Mould and Minifigure Ice Lollipop Mould. I wonder if they will start making little LEGO Brick cakes?

Must admit that I probably bought a little too much LEGO when we were on holidays (which I'm sure I'll let you know almost everything we did eventually).
But here's a run down of the LEGO purchases... if you gave me money for my birthday this it probably went towards something in here...
Bought from LEGOLand
7945 Fire Station
6239 Cannon Battle
6240 Kraken Attackin'
6241 Loot Island
6242 Soldiers' Fort
6243 Brickbeard's Bounty
852271 Knights Battle Pack
?????? Troll Battle Pack
852341 Minifigure Ice Lollipop Mould
851915 LEGO Brick Cake / Jelly Mould
7641 City Corner
852737 Star Wars 10th Anniversary Stormtrooper Magnet
50 Years of the LEGO Brick book
A whole bunch of Pick a Brick
LEGOLand membership (giving 10% all merch in LEGOLand and apparently LEGO stores, 20% food at LEGOLand, free entry to LEGOLand and one free entry for someone else once).
Bought from LEGO Disneyland
10185 Green Grocer
10193 Medieval Market Village
7079 Drawbridge Defense
10194 Emerald Night
7895 Switching Tracks
8293 Motor Set
10181 The Eiffel Tower (for urbabe)
From LAX Airport
The Brick Testament: The 10 Commandments
From AKL Airport
7744 Police Headquarters
The photo shows mostly boxes opened and Green Grocer and the Eiffel Tower are in the big red LEGOLand bags. Sadly one of the pluses of buying a lot of LEGO from the US is the extra effort in getting it home.
I'm pretty sure I'm missing some extra stuff, but urbabe will probably point it out, or I'll remember :)

Tags: Shopping, LEGO, blogMyer is having a sale with 20% off all LEGO. The sale starts today (June 25 2009) ad lasts until 26 July 2009 (unless sold out).
Some of the more interesting ones are the Taj Mahal, which exclusive to Myer for $399 (going up to $499 after the sale). Myer's other exclusive, The Eiffel Tower is reduced to $295 (from $395). This is a little annoying as we just bought Eiffel Tower from the Anaheim Disneyland LEGO store. Doh. The lady at LEGOland in Carlsbad did mention that the Eiffel Tower has been discontinued (although it's still listed in the online LEGO shop as available), so this is probably the best time to pick it up.

Missed it by that much.... We'll be going to LEGOland on the 15th. Which means that we'll miss this by a day. Doh... But it sounds like fun and I'm sure some of the merch will still be around.

THE FORCE RETURNS TO LEGOLAND® CALIFORNIA FOR STAR WARS™ DAYSSpecial two-day event features Xbox 360 gaming, Droid Hunt, daily costume contests and a special visit from Darth Vader himself
CARLSBAD, Calif. (April 20, 2009) – The Force returns to LEGOLAND® California on June 13 and 14 during LEGO® STAR WARS Days. Darth Vader and his 501st Legion of stormtroopers will invade the family theme park to interact with fans all weekend long, and LEGOLAND guests will also be able to take part in out-of-this-world activities like the Droid Hunt, video game battles, trivia competitions, building activities, scavenger hunts and daily costume contests.
For the first time ever during LEGO STAR WARS Days, fans of all ages can experience the new Xbox Family GameSpace, where they can play LEGO STAR WARS games all weekend long. The Xbox Family GameSpace features 13 game stations, providing an optimal gaming experience. Xbox Family GameSpace is a new permanent feature at LEGOLAND California where guests can experience LEGO STAR WARS and other family-friendly games year-round.
One of the most popular LEGO STAR WARS Days events is the Droid Hunt. Guests of all ages receive “droid badges” if they are among the first to stop by a specially marked table in The Beginning of the Park, where they will learn a special droid quote from within the STAR WARS Saga. When guests wearing droid badges are “caught” within the Park by members of the 501st Legion, they must recite the quote to receive a raffle ticket for the chance to win fantastic LEGO STAR WARS and LEGOLAND California merchandise.
Other features and attractions include the LEGO STAR WARS Fan Gallery, highlighting LEGO STAR WARS creations built by local fans and LEGO Club members; Jedi Trivia Contests, which allow guests to use their STAR WARS knowledge to compete for fabulous prizes; and a Miniland U.S.A. scavenger hunt to discover scrambled letters hidden by clone trooper mini-figures. Those who locate all the letters and unscramble the secret phrase will be entered into a contest to win a family four-pack of LEGOLAND California tickets and exclusive LEGO STAR WARS merchandise.
Also, guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite STAR WARS characters and participate in daily costume contests. Prizes will be awarded in two age categories: 8 and younger and 9 to 15. Each prize is valued at more than $500 and includes exclusive LEGO STAR WARS toys, collectible gear and tickets to LEGOLAND California.
According to Eurobricks, the 10th Anniversary Chrome Silver Stormtrooper Magnet has been released. Hopefully there will be some available at LEGOland by the time I get there. They look awesome.
